Boat launching ramp at Littlehaven

The Council operates a launching ramp on the River Tyne, adjacent to South Shields Sailing Club off Harbour Drive.

Using the ramp

To use the ramp, you need a permit and appropriate insurance.

Due to new security measures, we can no longer issue day permits.

The licence holder must read the permit guidance and safety information.

How to get a permit

You can buy a permit from the shop at The Word, South Shields.

Opening times:

  • Monday to Friday: 10am to 5pm
  • Saturday: 10am to 4pm
  • Sunday : Closed

What to bring with you to get a permit

You must bring: 

  • proof of current up to date insurance
  • proof of your previous permit sticker (if you're renewing a permit)
