Overview
Vision & Hearing Support is a local organisation which provides a wide range of services to support people living in Gateshead and South Tyneside who are visually impaired, enabling them to have the same quality of life which many sighted young people take for granted.
Support available
- Remote and face to face sensory assessments to build a personal support plan
- Provision of aids and equipment and demonstration/ instructions.
- Rehabilitation services including mobility training, independent living skills and safe guiding techniques
- Telephone befriending service to reduce isolation
- Assistive technology advice and support
- Information Advice and Guidance, including benefits, for those living with sensory impairment
- Face to face appointments in all services have resumed, following Government and ADASS guidelines
Who can access the service
Any person who is living in Gateshead or South Tyneside with sight loss can access the service. The person does not need to be registered Sight Impaired (partially sighted) or Severely Sight Impaired (blind).
