History
The development of the Riverside Park and Marina area on the south bank of the Tyne began in the 1970's. Land was reclaimed from 75 acres of derelict land once dominated by ship building, alkali, copper and sulphur works to transform the riverside into an attractive leisure area with a surprising variety of wildlife.
The black painted cut-steel viewpoint markers and nearby bench were designed by Matthew Jarratt and Neil Canavan in conjunction with local school and community groups in 1996.
