Overview

South Tyneside Council recognises that a greater number of people have found themselves, or their families, struggling financially.

The Council has agreed to award up to £100 hardship relief against the 22/23 Council Tax Bill for all working age Council Tax Support customers.

How the hardship relief will be shown on your bill

You will receive your usual Council Tax Bill for 22 / 23, which covers the period 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023.

If you are eligible for the new relief, in April 2022 you will automatically receive a second, amended bill.

Eligibility

You will be eligible if you are one of over 11,000 working age households and receive Council Tax Support (which supports those on lower incomes) during the financial year 22 / 23.

What to do next

If you already receive Council Tax Support, you do not need to take any further action.

If you are struggling to pay your Council Tax, you can apply for help towards your Council Tax costs by applying for Council Tax Support.
