We have designed this course to suit a wide variety of learners including the following:

  • Those with an interest in employment
  • Those looking to improve basic IT skills, such as using laptops, word processing and digital file management - again increasing employability
  • Those looking to improve 'softer skills' such as peer working, planning, engagement, self-confidence and communication
  • Those looking to build experience content for their CV by volunteering
  • Those who need to build skills and confidence to enter the workplace
  • Those who are unsure of a career path and looking to try something different, and also gain a useful qualification and transferrable skills
What will I study? (Key modules or content)

This course has been designed to give learners a solid introduction to a range of volunteering opportunities to build their CV, not only with a qualification but with work experience. Learners will look at ways of applying for roles, have mock interviews at the same time as enhancing core ICT and employability skills.

The course structure is flexible and we support a personalised learning approach. We treat each group uniquely and every learner as an individual. Our method is sometimes labelled as 'learning by stealth' due to our success in engaging and retaining learners who have previously not successfully completed similar training programmes.

What are the entry requirementsThere are no entry requirements but, depending on experience, we can help you decide whether to enrol on an entry level digital skills course first.

Progression and Careers

There are a variety of outcomes of the course linked directly and indirectly to job seekers gaining employment:

  • Gaining a nationally recognised Level 1 Certificate in IT User Skills
  • Improved ICT skills
  • Digital skills (image / video manipulation)
  • Improved word processing skills Inc. CV writing, project planning and general programme knowledge
  • Self-marketing skills via digital imaging to enhance basic CVs - can also include brand creation for self-employment marketing
  • Employability skills - working in a team, self directed work, meeting deadlines, following instructions
  • Volunteering experience or evidence or CV for employment

Learners can progress into voluntary employment in a role that they research as part of the course. This will not only add to their work experience for their CV but will also fill gaps where there has been long term unemployment. Volunteering is an opportunity to gain experience in various role types so as to ascertain which types of employment best suits an individual; where they may feel fulfilled in any final career decisions that they make.
