Who is this course for? (Eligibility and personal characteristics)

This course is suitable for those that have not previously achieved a Level 1 English qualification and would like to improve their skills and consider progression to a Level 2 Functional Skills in English.

All learners will receive a Learning Pack and Workbook to complete tasks - these will be posted out after your induction. You can do your learning whenever it fits in with you, so if you are an early bird or a night owl, in full-time employment or at home with children, you can study in your own time from the comfort of your home. 

What will I study? (Key modules or content)

During this course you will:

  • Develop understanding of basic numeracy and literacy

  • Review essential knowledge to carry out every day and more complex tasks

  • Learn the importance of accuracy

What are the entry requirementsAssessed at Entry 3 using the online assessment platform Skills Forward. The assessment, once completed will create tailored learning for the individual which is an additional tool to support learning and achievement.

Doing Remote Learning doesn't mean you are completing your learning alone. You will be supported every step of the way by your very own tutor and a Learner Supporter who will be on hand to help with all your learning needs.

If you are working on a task and get stuck on a particular topic, your tutor will provide you with help to overcome any difficulties, provide developmental feedback and make sure that you are able to make good progress towards achieving your qualification.

Progression and Careers

You could progress to a Level 2 functional skills qualification. 

You can include this qualification on a CV to support with job applications.
