Who is this course for? (Eligibility and personal characteristics)

This course is for anyone aged 19 or over.

This course is primarily aimed at learners who have very limited IT user skills, or those who wish to develop skills in an area they lack confidence. Learners should complete prerequisite course Digital Skills: Basics

We have designed this course to suit a wide variety of learners including the following:

  • Those who lack confidence using social media
  • Those looking to use social media safely
  • Those looking to maintain contact with friends and family using social media
  • Those with an interest in employment
  • Those looking to improve 'softer skills' such as peer working, planning, engagement, self-confidence and communication
  • Those looking to build experience content for their CV
What will I study? (Key modules or content)

This course has been designed as a follow-on from the prerequisite course Digital Skills: Basics and focuses on the area of social media.

The course will cover:

  • Gaining confidence using social media
  • Understanding what you can do on different social media sites and decide which (if any) learners would like to use
  • Using social media safely
  • How to sign up for social media sites
  • Social media key terms including 'hashtag', 'status' and 'private message'
