All abilities welcome. The course has been designed to either work as a standalone or as a bridging course for formal accreditation and no previous experience is required.

This course aims at building confidence in IT using digital image making, learners from this course can progress onto the Level 1 IT User Skills. 

Learners will build confidence in IT generally by navigating the PC by opening files and saving them in different locations and in different formats. They will also edit documents and do some digital form filling. 

The main focus of the course is around the learning of Adobe Photoshop and gaining higher level transferable IT (and softer) skills through this process. 

Learners will gain confidence to enable them to approach other software and digital applications in the future with less fear.

This Introduction to Digital Imaging course has been designed to give learners a solid introduction to digital imaging and basic ICT skills. The (five session) 20-hour course has been designed to either work as a standalone or as a bridging course for formal accreditation and no previous experience is required.

The course focuses on the professional design software, Adobe Photoshop, and is aimed to work effectively for both complete beginners and experienced users. N.B. Some more advanced users will concentrate on the development of their softer skills within the sessions.

Learners will firstly learn the programme interface and how the different areas correlate to one another, before experimenting with basic tools and techniques to create their own images. Basic tutorials are also made available to advance learners' skills within the programme and enlighten them to examples of what is possible.

Learners will be encouraged to undertake a personal design project in sessions 3 and 4, to further explore their creativity and advance their ICT user skills. There will be alternative project options for any learner who is not comfortable in pursuing their own ideas at this stage. 

By the end of the course all learners should have a basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and the key principles, tools and techniques involved in digital image creation and manipulation. Through the work completed, learners will have also demonstrated at least a level 1 equivalent of ICT skills.

The course is designed for progression onto a more in-depth non-accredited course in the form of Introduction to Digital Imaging or the Level 1 Employability Skills Through Digital Arts and Media.

Learners from this course can naturally progress onto our Level 1 Certificate in IT User Skills course.
