Who is this course for? (Eligibility and personal characteristics)

The course is ideally suited for anyone who wishes to gain employment within the construction industry.

Learners must be resident within South Tyneside postcode area or the surrounding postcode areas of Gateshead, Sunderland and County Durham.

Learners must be aged 19 years old or over and unemployed in receipt of a state benefit e.g. JSA; ESA (WRAG); Universal Credit or other State Benefit.

Learners must be resident within the UK / EU for at least 3 years prior to starting the course.

What will I study? (Key modules or content)

The course includes 10 online training courses that will equip learners with knowledge in key subject areas. 

These are:

  • Communication
  • COSHH
  • Display screen Equipment
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Fire Safety
  • First Aid
  • Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Manual handing of objects
  • Mental Health awareness

We support learners with ICT and employability skills.

What are the entry requirementsIdeally learners will have a minimum initial assessment score in English and maths of Entry Level 3.
Requirements of the course e.g. personal protective equipment, tools, materials

The course is an online course, therefore learners will need to have access to a device with an internet connection e.g. tablet, PC, laptop, mobile phone.

Progression and Careers

Completion of the course will enable learners to progress onto a Construction Skills related qualification and / or gain employment or an apprenticeship within the construction industry. Learners will receive course certificates for each online course.
