WRITE Festival: New Writers Showcase

Join us at The Word as we feature new writers from a variety of genres in this writing showcase. Each writer will introduce themselves and talk about their work. There will then be a Q&A session and an opportunity to purchase the authors' books.

This is a free event, but booking is required.

About Luke Harrison

Luke John Harrison was a former weekend warrior, relentless procrastinator, anxious overthinker, liar, cheater, ex plumber until he cleaned up his act. For over ten years, he's dedicated his life to coaching people from all walks of life on how to, once and for all, get their life together. In his second book, 'Supercharged', he shows you how to understand why you keep failing and explains, with immense simplicity, how to get back and stay on track - without any woo-woo nonsense.

About Mark Robertson

Mark Robertson was born in Sunderland in 1962, taking up the drums at fourteen. His work on stage and screen, big and small, has included collaborations with some of the country's finest musicians (also with a few of the worst).

Memorable gigs have included being Cheryl Cole's first drummer (she was eight), playing the 'ostrich mating dance' for Bernie Clifton and performing at the World Unicycle Convention . . . on drums not unicycle). In 1995, he co-wrote television play "In Bed with Jimmy Monty" which won the New Voices prize and was broadcast on ITV. In 2018, he was featured in the RTS award-winning documentary "The Geordie Jazz Man". His first Novel OFF KEY (THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD ABOUT LOVE . . . and jazz . . . in Sunderland) was described by "The Crack" Magazine as "A tale that hits plenty of high notes".

About Helen Aitchison

Helen Aitchison is a local author, born and bred in Newcastle. She began writing in 2019 alongside her day job as a North East Area Manager for a national charity supporting vulnerable children and adults. Her writing is inspired by 20 years working in the health and social care field, as well as personal experience and her interest in human interactions and relationships. Prior to signing a publishing deal for her debut novel, Helen had short pieces featured in a variety of anthologies and on-line mediums. Some of her publications have focused on raising awareness and funds for charities including CALM, The Samaritans and The Princes Trust.

About Hayden Watson

"I have been writing for some 11 years now and I have just completed my third book. I am a native of South Shields and my working life includes 21 years as an Engineer and 27 years in the teaching profession. I have five children and ten grandchildren. My first book entitled A Life Navigated is based on a true story of a man who faced many personal challenges to survive. My second book Garn Yem is a set of short stories set in and around South Shields. It follows the lives of nine young men and their friendship in the early 1970's. My third book is a fictional tale based upon true events during the Holocaust in Czechoslovakia from 1939 - 1945 and is called Sorrow and Hope".
