Overview of the proposal
The proposal includes:
- In our ongoing efforts to reduce road traffic collisions and improve road safety, South Tyneside Council are proposing to install road humps on Larch Avenue, South Shields.
It is envisaged the road humps will help maintain low vehicle speeds and create a safer environment for highway users. This proposed measure will assist with reinforcing the existing 20 zone speed restriction in force on Larch Avenue.
Consultation closes: 25 October 2021.

TRAFFIC CALMING PROPOSALS 2021
South Tyneside Council proposes under Sections 90A and 90C of the Highways Act 1980 and the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999 to undertake the following:
Install traffic calming (all being road humps within the meaning of the Highways Act 1980) consisting of full width road humps along Larch Avenue, South Shields.
The proposed humps will consist of a raised surface 75mm above the existing carriageway. The proposed locations are as follows in the below schedules:
Schedule 1 - Road Hump (Kerb to kerb in width and 3.7m in length)

The traffic calming is necessary to reduce traffic speeds.
Details of these proposals may be inspected from Monday to Friday during normal office hours at the Council's Legal Services Section at the address below.
If you wish to raise an objection, express support or make any other observations about these proposals, you must make them in writing at the address below (addressed for the attention of Sean Ventress/ ref SV/TRS19/TC01) by 25 Oct 2021. Any objections must specify the grounds on which they are made.
