South Shields regeneration: Riverside

Progress so far

In the past few years, South Tyneside Council has delivered regeneration schemes that have transformed South Shields riverside, creating hundreds of jobs and attracting millions of pounds of private investment, including:

Holborn

This mixed-use development will transform former industrial land into a desirable location for residents and visitors.

This development will strengthen the link between the riverside and the town centre.

Trinity South

New housing near Laygate and Frederick Street has helped revitalise what was previously one of the most deprived areas of South Shields.

The project:

  • provided much needed new family homes on former industrial land
  • replaced delapidated former retail units
  • improved the setting of the Frederick Street shopping district through new public realm
