Overview
Skills South Tyneside continues to deliver a range of courses to help you get into work, change career path and improve your skills.
You can access a full variety of courses in COVID-19 secure classroom settings or through online delivery and support.
Our specialist training providers are ready to talk to you to help you get on track, no matter what your needs and goals are.
Whether you're taking the first steps on your career path or getting back to work after a break of learning, we've got something for you.
Eligible learners will be fully funded and have nothing to pay towards the cost of the course.

Becoming unemployed can leave you panicking and unsure of what to do next.
How we can help you
We have a range of courses available to help you develop new skills and improve your current ones.
If you are currently out of work and claiming benefits, our courses are free of charge and are being delivered online so that you can learn at your own pace.
If you are looking for work in a new industry or occupation, we have a number of ways to get into employment to increase your chances of getting back into work.
What we offer
We offer courses from entry level to level 2 to give you an introduction to a new sector or occupation, where local employers are currently recruiting.
Career Links and Hot Jobs
Our bite-sized, online Career Link modules are designed to develop your job search skills and improve your confidence at interview by giving you the tools to excel.
Whether you've recently entered the job market, have been searching for a job for some time or are already employed but looking to increase your confidence to make a change, these courses will have something for you.

Entitlement to free adult learning courses
Under certain circumstances you may be entitled to access your course for free. The following people are entitled to a free place.
16-18 year olds
All 16-18 year olds are entitled to a free place on our free Study Programme courses. You must not already be in full time education or employment.
19+ year olds
Anyone over the age of 19 can access our English or Maths up to and including level 2 for free.
19-23 year olds
If you are aged 19-23 you can access a free course if you are:
- Studying a qualification up to and including level 1 to help you move up to level 2
- Studying for your first full level 2 qualification
- Studying for level 2 but have already achieved a level 2 or higher and are currently unemployed
- Studying for your first full level 3 qualification
24+ and unemployed
If you are unemployed and over the age of 24 you can access a free course if you are:
- Studying a qualification up to and including level 1 to help you progress to level 2
- Studying for your first full level 2 qualification
- Studying for level 2 but have already achieved a level 2 or higher and are currently unemployed
