About the Local Plan
Economic development
The Local Plan must meet our need for economic development.
Land has been allocated for economic development. This will:
- allow more new businesses to move here
- make sure existing businesses have the space to grow
The amount of land set aside for this reflects South Tyneside's strong past economic performance, which is predicted to continue to grow in the future.
To support our plans, an Employment Land Review was carried out in 2019. An independent Local Economic Assessment has also been undertaken.
