Overview of the proposal
The proposal includes:
- allow commercial goods vehicles loading/unloading at East Smithy Street and Waterloo Square, South Shields access to the bus street/gate on Keppel Street/Fowler Street between the hours of 10am and 6pm
- changes to the day/time loading bay restrictions on Keppel Street north side from its junction with Fowler Street in a south westwards direction for 74 metres

South Tyneside Council (Keppel Street/Fowler Street, South Shields-Amendment to Bus Street/Gate) Order 2022
South Tyneside Council proposes to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers.
The effect of the Order will be to:
- amend the existing Prohibition and Restriction of Waiting and Movement Restrictions Consolidation Orders to correct technical changes and insert relevant provisions relating to the Prohibition of Driving in the bus street/gate at Keppel Street/Fowler Street, South Shields.
- allow any commercial goods vehicle being used for the conveyance of Goods and merchandise to or from premises located on East Smithy Street and Waterloo Square, South Shields access to the bus street/gate at Keppel Street/Fowler Street between the hours of 10am and 6pm.
- revoke a loading bay restriction Any Day 5am to 11pm on Keppel Street, South Shields north side from its junction with Fowler Street in a south westwards direction for a distance of 74 metres
- introduce a loading bay restriction Monday to Thursday 5am -11pm and Friday to Sunday 5am-6pm on Keppel Street, South Shields north side from its junction with Fowler Street in a south westwards direction for a distance of 74 metres.
Full details of these proposals are contained in the draft order which, together with a plan showing the lengths of road affected and a statement of the Council's reasons for proposing to make the Order, may be inspected from Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm at the Town Hall at the address below.
