Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment
Local planning authorities are required to carry out a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) to assess potential sites for future housing development.
The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment forms an important part of the evidence base for the , alongside our Strategic land review.
Its aim is to identify possible development sites and to:
- Assess whether they could be suitable for housing
- Assess when any development could happen
Provide an indicative estimate of the potential number of homes each site might reasonably accommodate if they were to be developed for housing purposes
