Silver Summer Festival

South Tyneside Council is celebrating after scooping a tourism award for its exciting free Summer Festival of live music, entertainment and activities. 

The annual three-month event secured a silver award in the Best Tourism Event category of the North East England Tourism Awards.

Top awards for Littlehaven Promenade and Seawall

One of South Tyneside's new seafront attractions has scooped two prestigious awards.

The £5m Littlehaven Promenade and Seawall project was crowned the best Infrastructure project at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) North East Renaissance Awards 2014.

The category recognises outstanding achievement by a project or programme of infrastructure works including projects that deliver essential facilities, services or organisational structure.

Only days after taking the award, the project did it again.

The development was crowned the best scheme over £4m in the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East's Robert Stephenson Awards.

Judges acknowledged the pre-planning of the construction as well as extensive community engagement that had been undertaken including the establishment of an on-site visitors centre and site visits for local school children and college students.

Award-winning Harton Quays Park

Harton Quays Park on South Shields riverside has been recognised for its magnificent landscaping. 

The stunning waterfront attraction was the only scheme in the region to win a British Association of Landscape Industries award.

Every Contact a Health Improvement Contact

Every Contact a Health Improvement Contact (ECHIC) programme has scooped the public health category of the 2014 Local Government Chronicle Awards which showcases the biggest celebration of innovation and talent across British councils.

National Recognition for Council

South Tyneside Council has been highlighted by a national newspaper as being in the best local authorities in Britain.

The Daily Telegraph rated the council sixth nationwide in an article highlighting 'outstanding local authorities that will bring a smile to every homeowner'.

South Tyneside Homes among top 100 for equality and diversity

South Tyneside Homes is leading the way for its continued commitment to equality and diversity after being ranked among the country's best gay-friendly workplaces.

The housing company has ranked 72nd place in the Stonewall Work Place Equality Index 2014. This is a leap from 114th in 2013 and takes the organisation into the Top 100 organisations for the first time.

The Stonewall Top 100 is a definitive list of the UK's most gay-friendly workplaces and is the tenth to be published by the charity.

The index takes into account a range of key indicators including a confidential questionnaire of lesbian, gay and bisexual staff, with over 9,700 participants.

This consistently revealed that employees from organisations ranked in Stonewall's Top 100 exhibited higher levels of staff satisfaction and loyalty.
